Alto Napier Tech Men also had a win, beating NBHS 1st XI 7-3 to take third place in the Hawkes Bay Premier Men's grade.

Tech White won the war of nerves in the penalty shoot-out 2-0 after they were locked 1-all with the Blues, who were missing four key players to the Central team competing in the National Hockey League.

Tech right inner Merania Hibbard drew first blood in the 11th minute for a halftime lead.

With Akina coach Keriana Paewai playing centre forward, the favourites struck back to level terms from fullback Shannel Tamati from a peanlty corner with seven minutes remaining on the clock.

Soleil Fletcher was the toast of Tech when she kept her goal intact to deny the Blues any goals in the penalty shootout. She blocked two while one hit the upright and another went wide.

Tech's left inner Kate Parker and centre half Holly Bruce outfoxed Blues keeper Colleen Edwards.

"We were just elated about beating them for the first time this season," Tech player Mandy Eddy said.
